El Concilio Council for the Spanish Speaking
Founded in 1968 during the civil rights movement by five visionary leaders, El Concilio has managed to establish a distinguished record of accomplishment through the development of comprehensive social and educational programs creating stronger, healthier and more productive communities.
For the last 44 years, El Concilio has built relationships throughout the San Joaquin Central Valley. The foundation of the organization was a $10,000 dollar grant from the Catholic Diocese to aid the migrant workers with immigration and social welfare issues. However, that foundation was built on more than money. It took the trust of people and the confidence that El Concilio would truly assist them in their time of need. El Concilio continues that tradition and strengthening that foundation with each program geared toward the low-income population, individuals who have social, mental or physical barriers to obtaining services.
El Concilio is committed to providing the best services possible to the community through counseling, referrals, education, and in the belief that persons empowered to help themselves will become significant assets to the community at large. El Concilio offers services to infants, youth, adults, families and seniors. These services are open to any person seeking assistance. El Concilio offers a wide range of programs to benefit the San Joaquin Central Valley. www.elconcilio.org |
